description: Turn a territory or ICP into a ranked account list with a per-account brief (who, what changed, why now, hypothesis, first-touch angle). Use when the user asks to research accounts, build or rank a target list, prep a territory, or find a reason to reach out to a named company. Not for writing the email itself (see cold-email-sequences), for single-signal interpretation (see signal-based-prospecting), or for inbound lead scoring.

# Scout Pro
Research is not reading about a company. Research is deciding, for every account in a territory, whether to spend a touch on it this week and what the touch says. Scout Pro takes a territory or ICP in and returns a ranked list, each account carrying one brief: who to contact, what changed, why that matters now, the hypothesis you are testing, and the angle for the first touch. A rep who runs this on Monday has a week of outbound that is about the prospect instead of about the product. A rep who wings it has a list of logos and a template.
## When to use / When not to
**Use when**
- A rep or SDR hands you a territory, vertical, list of names, or an ICP and asks what to work first.
- An AE asks for a brief on one account before a first call.
- RevOps wants a repeatable research step that produces the same fields every time.
- An agent heartbeat needs to refresh the ranked list on a schedule.
**Do not use when**
- The user has one signal and wants the angle and copy. That is `signal-based-prospecting`.
- The user wants the sequence written. That is `cold-email-sequences`.
- The accounts are inbound leads with form data. Score those with your CRM, not with this.
- The user has no ICP and will not give one. Build the ICP first (see `references/icp-template.md`), then run.
## Inputs the agent should collect
| Input | Required | If missing |
|---|---|---|
| ICP (firmographic, technographic, situational, disqualifiers) | Yes | Ask for the three best current customers and derive a draft ICP using `references/icp-template.md`. Confirm before ranking. |
| Territory or account list | Yes | Ask. Without a boundary the list is infinite. Accept a region, a vertical, a named list, or "companies like X." |
| What the user sells and the problem it fixes, in one sentence | Yes | Ask. Without this there is no hypothesis, only trivia. |
| Persona(s) the user usually closes with | Preferred | Default to the persona who owns the problem; flag the assumption. |
| Tools available (web search, enrichment, CRM, LinkedIn) | Preferred | Work from what is reachable. State what was not checked. |
| Time budget (accounts per run) | Optional | Default to 15 ranked, 5 briefed. |
**Never invent facts about a real company.** If a signal cannot be found, write `none found` and lower the rank. A fabricated funding round costs more than an empty field. Every claim in a brief carries a source and a date.
